Student Spotlight:
Nina Christy
Salsa Student
Meet Nina Christy, a passionate Cuban dancer who embraced salsa to connect with her culture and impress her family with her moves. Living in Los Angeles, she saw salsa as the perfect way to meet new people and forge meaningful friendships. Nina’s journey began in Salsa 101, where she bonded with others who shared her excitement and nerves, creating an encouraging environment that eased the pressure of starting something new.
Nina’s learning strategy revolves around rhythm and counting steps, which helps her build confidence on the dance floor. Her dream is to attend a salsa event in Cuba, the birthplace of the vibrant dance she loves. When asked about Movers and Shakers Dance Academy, she urges everyone to take the leap: “DO IT! You won’t regret it!”
Nina shares his dance journey through the following interview questions.

1. How did specific events or people influence your decision to start learning salsa?
I lived in LA for over a year and wanted to make new connections and friends. Also, I'm Cuban and love to dance salsa at family parties so I figured I'd impress them with my new skills.
2. What strategies do you use to remember the steps and techniques taught in class?
The rhythm of the song and counting my steps.
3. Have you ever had a memorable dance with a stranger at a salsa event? What made it special?
My first day of Salsa 101 I felt like I bonded with a lot of people because they decided to take salsa for similar reasons I did. Also, most of us had no idea what we were doing the first day so it definitely lessened the pressure.
4. If you could attend a salsa dance event anywhere in the world, where would you go, and why?
Cuba because that's where salsa has it's origins.
5. What would you say to someone who is unsure about joining Movers and Shakers for salsa lessons?
DO IT! You won't regret it!
