Ashley Rodriguez

1. How did your interest in salsa dancing begin?

I grew up with Latin dances since I could remember.

2. What moment at a Movers and Shakers salsa class made you feel out of your comfort zone? How did you handle it, and what did you learn from that experience?

My first out-of-comfort-zone moment was when I first visited to see a class. Danny (Academy Director) was gracious to let me observe, and all the dancers took notice of my presence.

However, the energy Danny brought to that class was welcoming and electrifying. It was what made me decide to join :)

3. What’s a favorite memory bonding with your classmates outside of salsa class? What made it special?

My favorite bonding experience is one that I've experienced at times in class, when you miss a step, or your partner misses a step. You just end up laughing and trying again. No agitation or stress but fun.

4. If you could invite any celebrity, alive or fictional, to join you for a night of salsa dancing in Los Angeles, who would it be and why?

Michelle Obama because she's so fit, and I know she could take on a challenge.

5. What advice would you offer to someone considering taking salsa lessons?

See if it is the right fit for you. It's wonderful to see the instructors at first glance when making that decision, and I know that once someone steps into that welcoming energy, they wouldn't want to leave.
